Eccentric, quirky Aquarians crave new and unusual experiences and prefer intelligence over surface qualities such as style in their companions.

Typical Aquarians value intellectual prowess and uniqueness over physical appearance or other more shallow attributes when choosing friends and lovers. Only intelligent, creative, and original companions tend to hold their attention.

Unusual Requirements

Aquarians have odd or obscure standards for what they want in friends and lovers, and may have trouble relating to mainstream or conservative people. If they get involved with conventional or clingy individuals, they will soon wander off in search of companions they find more interesting. When Aquarians do find a clever, eccentric companion, however, they are usually extremely loyal, whether that person is good for them or not. Ideal companions are progressive rather than traditional, open-minded, intellectual, eccentric, and not exceptionally sensitive.

Generous and Sociable

Aquarians are generous with their time and money, though they may have trouble providing emotional support, as they tend to attack problems intellectually rather than intuitively. An Aquarian is just as likely to provide assistance to a stranger as a friend, and possessive lovers may become jealous of the fact that the Aquarian belongs to the world rather than any one individual. Aquarians also have an exaggerated need for freedom, which can be upsetting for more needy types. This means that Aquarians do best with mates who are as independent as they are, and who also prefer spending time with groups of people rather than cozy evenings at home with just the two of them.

Intellectually Detached and Even-Tempered

Aquarians have a tendency to give detached, intellectual answers to emotional questions, which can be hurtful to more sensitive people. On the other hand, they are often pleasant to live with because this detachment makes them easy going, tolerant, and even-tempered. While they love to engage in spirited debate, typical Aquarians are unlikely to be purposefully cruel or pick real fights about sensitive issues. Aquarians are by nature extremely tolerant of the quirks and idiosyncrasies of others (and have quite a few of their own). They are also nonjudgmental, and will listen to the problems and personal views of others with an open mind, offering unique solutions and fresh perspectives.

Experimental and Change-Loving

Aquarians love fresh new experiences, which can make their behaviour erratic and unpredictable. They have low boredom thresholds that prevent them from establishing routines and being satisfied with ordinary activities. They are most compatible with friends and lovers who share their need for novelty and exploration, and who are comfortable with change, as Aquarians will often turn their lives upside down on a whim if things get too stagnant. Aquarians will try almost anything once, and as a result, they often develop unusual or obscure interests, hobbies, and collections of things. They are more likely to establish friendships and romantic relationships with those who have equally eclectic and unusual tastes, and who can introduce them to new activities.

The Atypical Aquarius

The sun sign isn’t the only element that influences personality. Aspects and planetary placements, particularly the moon sign and rising sign (ascendant), are also important. For example, an Aquarius with Taurus rising will be more stable and domestic, and Pisces rising makes an Aquarius more sensitive and intuitive.

There are many websites that offer free chart calculation to determine other planetary placements and aspects. Learning these other planetary placements is recommended, as it provides a more comprehensive personality profile.
