Impulsive and idealistic in love and friendship, Aries seeks romantic partners and friends who are challenging, playful, energetic, and exciting.

The typical Aries prefers dynamic partners and friends who enjoy physical activities and good-natured competition. An ideal companion will challenge the Aries friend or lover with energetic athletic pursuits or intellectually stimulating debate. Aries respects assertiveness and the willingness to take physical or psychological risks in both friends and lovers.

Impulsive and Idealistic

Aries people are as impulsive and idealistic about love as they are about everything else. They jump into love affairs without really thinking things through, which can lead to problems. They give themselves completely over to love and tend to idealize the other person, which can often result in disappointment. When it comes to romantic pursuits, some Aries people also enjoy the chase more than the relationship, and may frequently seek new conquests. On the other hand, the trusting, gullible nature of Aries lends itself to abuse. Unscrupulous people can take advantage of this childlike idealism to betray the trust of a loyal Aries.

Excitement-Seeking

Aries people need change, variety, and novelty in their interactions and will become very restless if they don’t get it. If things become too routine, they may wander off in search of more unpredictable companions. This will not necessarily include infidelity in a romantic relationship. More often it will simply be the Aries seeking the company of friends that he or she finds more exciting. Lively, creative, risk-taking friends and lovers are the most suited to the typical Aries personality.

Both Generous and Selfish

Aries people must be careful not to control or dominate those close to them. They have a tendency to be bossy, though they may not always be aware of it. While they are extremely generous to loved ones when it comes to time, energy, and money, they are inclined to put their own emotional needs first. In addition, Aries is not known for diplomacy, and a tendency toward blunt speech can cause hurt feelings. However, Aries also has a highly altruistic streak, which means that Aries people are not only inclined to help others, but will do so even at great personal cost or risk.

Passionate and Feisty

Aries people are very passionate and intense in their romantic relationships and have trouble with emotionally reserved or unaffectionate partners. Aries is quick to anger and equally quick to forgive, and very expressive of feelings. This makes it difficult for the Aries to deal with people who tend to bottle things up or be emotionally cautious. With more reserved, diplomatic types, the Aries is likely to become pushy or even combative simply to get the other person to open up, and this can cause problems. On the positive side, the lively, vibrant, playful Aries nature can keep things interesting, fresh, and fun in a relationship, as long as friends and lovers can tolerate a bit of rudeness or pushiness from time to time.

The Atypical Aries

The sun sign isn’t the only element that influences personality. Aspects and planetary placements, particularly the moon sign and rising sign (ascendant), are also important. For example, an Aries person with Virgo rising will likely be more cautious and practical, and with Libra rising, the Aries will be more of a peacemaker and less of a fighter. Moon in Cancer would make cozy domesticity more important, while Capricorn rising would make the Aries less impulsive and passionate but more thoughtful and diplomatic.

There are many websites that offer free astrology chart calculation to determine other planetary placements and aspects. Learning these other planetary placements is recommended, as it provides a more comprehensive personality profile.
