Traditional astrological wisdom holds that Geminis are most compatible with Aries, Gemini, Leo, Libra and Aquarius, and least compatible with Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn, Sagittarius and Pisces. But what do the actual marriage and divorce statistics say?
Mathematician Gunter Sachs conducted a large-scale study of sun signs and found statistically significant results on a number of measures. Marriage and divorce findings are outlined below.
Gemini Men
Gemini men are most likely to marry Gemini women. As for the sign Gemini men are least likely to marry, there was no statistically significant result, which suggests that Geminis may have broadminded tastes and appreciate a wider variety of personal qualities in a partner. Gemini men most often divorce Capricorn women, but are least likely to part from Taurus, Gemini and Scorpio women.
Taurus and Gemini is not a good romantic connection according to conventional astrological wisdom, and Gemini and Scorpio is considered an abysmal match for long-term love. Perhaps these solid, reliable signs provide some stability for the mutable, impulsive Gemini. Or maybe the excitement of passionate clashes keeps things interesting. It could also be that the stubbornness of Taurus and Scorpio are mitigated by Gemini open-mindedness and psychological flexibility.
The higher-than-average divorce statistic between Gemini men and Capricorn women is unsurprising. Capricorns often find Geminis flighty and irresponsible, while Geminis frequently view Capricorns as over-cautious “wet blankets” that have a gloomy, suffocating effect on their sense of fun.
Gemini Women
Gemini women are most likely to marry Gemini men, but least likely to marry Tauruses and Scorpios. Gemini women part least often from Gemini men, but divorce Scorpio, Sagittarius and Aquarius men most often.
The above-average divorce statistic between Gemini women and both Sagittarius and Aquarius men may represent not so much a clash of ideologies as the fact that it is difficult for two people whose intellects pull them in many different directions to stick together for long. Sun signs inclined toward impulsiveness and emotional detachment may break up more easily than those that tend to be more cautious, practical and sensitive.
Best Match
Overall, it would seem that a Gemini is the best love match for another Gemini, both for short-term commitment and long-term relationship durability. But given some of the more surprising findings, such as the longevity of marriages between Gemini men and women of supposedly incompatible signs, there are indications that Gemini may seek something more complex than simple domestic harmony.
Study Findings and Traditional Astrological Predictions
The Gemini marriage and divorce statistics provide some surprises. While it would be expected that the preferred marriage partner would be another Gemini due to shared interests and common lifestyle choices, Gemini men are also inclined to stay with Tauruses and Scorpios, which are theoretically incompatible signs.
Gemini women appear to be using criteria more in keeping with traditional astrological wisdom, often rejecting Taurus and Scorpio men and frequently divorcing Scorpios if they do make it to the altar. Brooding, intense Scorpio and playful, laid-back Gemini do not make an easy match. Also, Taurean jealousy and Gemini flirtatiousness are considered a bad mix. However, Gemini women are also divorcing Aquarians at an above-average rate, and this is theoretically one of Gemini’s most compatible signs.
Incompatible Matches
Geminis who find themselves romantically entangled with one of the less compatible signs should not despair. Plenty of marriages between supposedly incompatible signs have lasted.
While some matches are statistically favored over others, astrology is complex, and there is more to take into account than just sun signs. Two people with incompatible sun signs may have highly compatible rising signs (ascendants) or moon signs that can make the difference between a bad match and a good match with a bit of an “edge” that keeps things interesting.
