Marriage & Divorce for Sagittarius
Romantic Compatibility with Other Astrology Signs
Traditional astrological wisdom holds that Sagittarians are most compatible with Aries, Leo, Libra, Sagittarius and Aquarius, and least compatible with Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Virgo, Scorpio, Capricorn and Pisces. But what do the actual marriage and divorce statistics say?
Mathematician Gunter Sachs conducted a large-scale study of sun signs and found statistically significant results on a number of measures. Marriage and divorce findings are outlined below.
Sagittarius Men
Sagittarius men most often marry Aries and Sagittarius women, and most often divorce Geminis and Leos. Sagittarius men are least likely to marry Capricorn and Pisces women, and least likely to divorce Aries and Aquarius.
Sagittarian men and Leo women may part ways more frequently because Sagittarians tend to spread their attentions among many different people and Leo women are quick to move on if they do not get sufficient attention from their partners.
The above-average divorce statistic with Gemini is in keeping with astrological expectations, although it may result from the traits the two signs have in common rather than the ways in which they differ. Gemini and Sagittarius are both easily bored and this may contribute more to the high divorce statistic than any tendency toward fighting and discord. As Sagittarius and Gemini both engage in a constant search for new experiences, this combination may lack sticking power.
Aries and Sagittarius make a good match because both tend to enjoy athletic pursuits, socializing and excitement that carries some degree of risk. Both also tend toward openness, honesty and optimism.
Aquarius also has good luck in holding the Sagittarian’s attention. Both signs are outgoing, open-minded, philosophical and often somewhat eccentric or rebellious. This is an intellectually stimulating match, and an emotionally detached Aquarius is less likely to be bothered by Sagittarian rudeness or insensitivity than those of many other signs, while the Sagittarius will be better able to understand the Aquarian need to spend time with many different people as opposed to being an isolated twosome. Both signs are more inclined to seek novel experiences and take chances than to cultivate security and cozy domesticity or establish routines.
Capricorns and Sagittarians may have less luck because the Capricorn requires security and a stable home base while the Sagittarian may impulsively toss a few belongings in a bag and head off on an adventure. Sagittarian tactlessness and Capricorn diplomacy may also clash.
Pisces and Sagittarius may run into difficulties because blunt Sagittarian speech and Piscean sensitivity make for a volatile combination. In the worst case scenario, the Sagittarian will find the Pisces too needy, while the Pisces may view the Sagittarian as cruel and selfish.
Sagittarius Women
Sagittarius women marry Sagittarius men most often. As for who Sagittarius women are most likely and least likely to divorce, there was no statistically significant result for any sign, nor was there a definitive answer as to who they are least likely to marry.
Two Sagittarians have an above-average likelihood of making it to the altar. This is unsurprising, as they are inclined to share certain values, such as a love of travel, a philosophical outlook and a desire to engage in lifelong learning outside of the traditional classroom. Both are independent, neither is strongly inclined toward jealousy and Sagittarians usually need little emotional reassurance. Both tend to engage in brutal honesty (they can dish it out but in most cases they can also take it) and energetic physical pursuits.
It is interesting that Sagittarius women show no strong tendency to stay with or leave any particular sign. This may have something to do with the open-mindedness and social inquisitiveness of the Sagittarian personality. Sagittarius women, with their natural curiosity about human nature, may be interested in a wider variety of people than those of other signs.
Best Match
The ideal love match for a Sagittarius of either gender is another Sagittarius, while Sagittarius men often also do well with Aries.
Study Findings and Traditional Astrological Predictions
As would be expected, Sagittarians favor other Sagittarians for marriage, as well as the traditionally compatible sign of Aries, and tend to last with Aries and Aquarius while avoiding the incompatible signs of Capricorn and Pisces and divorcing Gemini. However, the higher-than-average divorce statistic for Sagittarius and Leo defies conventional astrological wisdom.
Incompatible Matches
Sagittarians who find themselves romantically entangled with one of the less compatible signs should not despair. Plenty of marriages between supposedly incompatible signs have lasted.
Astrology is complex, and there is more to take into account than just sun signs. Two people with incompatible sun signs may have highly compatible rising signs (ascendants) or moon signs that can make the difference between a bad match and a good match with a bit of an “edge” that keeps things interesting.
