The heart and soul of astological interpretation is based upon the sun, moon and rising sign of an individual. The interrelationships of these three are discussed.
The core elements of astrological interpretation for any astrological chart are based upon the sun, moon and rising sign. Basically the sun describes one’s ego, the moon one’s inner self and the rising sign one’s outer façade. When the signs of all three and house placements of the sun and moon are known, a fairly precise picture of that individual’s personality becomes known.
The sun represents one’s basic ego or personality. It can also represent father or authority figures. Although astronomically our sun doesn’t orbit, it does so astrologically. It takes the sun one full year to orbit the entire twelve signs of an astrological horoscope. The sun roughly spends thirty days in each sign and although the sun is in the same sign in a given month, it can be in any of the twelve houses during the course of the day. The determination of this will be dependant on the birth time and birthplace of that individual. The house placement, plus the many different moon and rising sign combinations, explains why everyone born under the same sign isn’t really alike.
The moon represents one’s inner self. Its placement by sign and house indicate those areas to which one is emotional or sensitive. It tends to represent the feelings that are felt instinctively and is at the core of one’s emotions. It is the intimate side of one’s character. The moon can also represent one’s relationship with their mother. The moon changes signs every two and a half days. Twelve different moon combinations can be made within each sun sign.
The Ascendant or rising sign is the sign seen at the nine o’clock position of a person’s astrological chart. It is the sign seen on the cusp of the first house at the very moment of birth. The rising sign explains how one acts, appears to others and approaches the world. It is the perception of how others see that individual. The rising sign changes every two hours in a given day. That is why an exact birth time is helpful. There are 144 possible rising sign to sun/moon sign combinations within the same sun sign.
For complete accuracy, one needs to know their exact birth time and place. If a person knows the sign and house placement of each, it will enable them to get the most complete information and three views to each component of one’s persona. It will enable them to understand themselves completely and will help to provide guidance as to what can be improved, strengthened or maintained.
